About the opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Newcastle Board of Trustees.
As part of the annual Smart Works Female Unemployment Index, it was established that in 2023 the average age of a Smart Works Newcastle client is 37. Consequently, the Board is seeking a new trustee who will help raise greater awareness about the Smart Works service with young women across Newcastle and the North East.
US is a North East based charity supporting young people aged between 12 and 25 to get involved in sport and exercise to improve their mental health.
The new post of Youth Engagement Officer will engage with young people aged 12 to 25 to:
- facilitate their progress in activities with US, and to measure the impact of our programmes.
- listen to young people’s views about mental illness, the accessibility of physical exercise and the impact and importance of exercise.
To provide a variety of opportunities and build the power of girls and young women in group work session at West End Women and Girls Centre. To develop and deliver a programme of activities in negotiation with the lead worker, sessional staff and members.
12 hours per week to be worked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Youth Worker – The Children’s Foundation
“Making serious things fun”
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (regional travel required)
Salary: £ 25,538 WTE (Actual £20,431)
Contract: 30 hours per week (regular evening work required)
You will be responsible for delivering our various face to face youth work projects with children and young people. This will include one to one work as well as group-based sessions and activities, including but not limited to; children’s community allotment, couch to 2K, holiday activities, Roots to Health programme and others that we run from our community allotment and in schools. This post will include regular early evening work.
This role is based outside in forests, woods, riversides and other places of natural beauty and promotes the ethos of Forest School principles throughout.
Established in 2000, Stepney Banks Stables (SBS) is an inner-city riding school, which functions as a children’s social development charity facilitating in the development of transferable life skills within a fun and safe environment. The key purpose of this post is to coordinate delivery and monitor effectively our face to face youth programme. The post holder will be responsible for developing and engaging in meaningful partnerships to increase and sustain our youth work opportunities
