Poised2Excel CIC was established in 2021 with a mission to empower individuals and communities to reach their full potential. As a community interest company, we are committed to delivering impactful programmes that support personal and professional development, with a particular focus on underrepresented groups in the North East of England.
Our vision is to create a society where everyone, regardless of background, has access to opportunities for growth, success, and well-being. We achieve this by offering mentorship, training, community engagement initiatives, and support services that promote education, employability, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion.
Since our inception, we have worked closely with local communities in Gateshead, Durham, Sunderland, and surrounding areas to address challenges such as unemployment, mental health, and social isolation. By fostering collaboration and resilience, we continue to create positive changes and inspire individuals to thrive.
Who do you serve? How do they access services?
We serve individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly focusing on marginalised and underrepresented communities in the North East, including Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland. Our services support young people, women, and ethnic minority groups, offering personal and professional development opportunities, mentorship, and community support programmes.

What are your current projects or services?
Our current projects and services are:
- Elevate and Enrich Workshops - A series of interactive workshops focused on hair health, empowering individuals with knowledge on scalp care, protective styling, and overall wellbeing. These sessions provide a safe space for discussions around cultural identity, confidence, and self-care.
- Hair Braiding Workshops - Practical, hands-on sessions where participants learn the art of braiding, from basic techniques to advanced styles. These workshops promote cultural appreciation, skill-building, and potential entrepreneurship opportunities in the hair industry.
What are your three main concerns at the moment?
- Emotional wellbeing and focus - Maintaining personal wellbeing while balancing multiple responsibilities. Prioritising mental health, resilience, and staying focused on growth and success despite external challenges.
- Business growth and funding - Ensuring the growth and sustainability of Poised2Excel CIC. Securing funding opportunities, grants, and financial stability is essential for expanding services, hiring staff, and reaching more people in need. Navigating the challenges of scaling operations while maintaining high standards of training and community impact is a key focus.
