The Millin Charity

Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):
The Millin Charity provide holistic support services for women. We help women set up their own businesses, gain employability skills, access training and be part of a supportive community of women working towards financial independence. Women gain the confidence and skills to achieve their goals, improve their well-being, their networks, improve opportunities and become economically active.
Who do you serve? How do they access services?
We serve women who are long term unemployed or inactive and face multiple disadvantages and inequalities.
Our services are delivered at our Newcastle Hub at Beacon or our Gateshead Women’s Enterprise Hub at Greenesfield Business Centre.
What are you current projects or services?
Our Enterprise offer supports women who have a business idea and have an aspiration to start their own business, providing a range of enterprise programmes including bespoke accredited courses, specialist workshops, trial-trading, networking and one-to-one business advice sessions.
We serve women who want to move into employment, self-employment or further training. We offer programmes to learn new skills, increase confidence, meet new people, gain accreditation and improve job prospects. Practical advice and guidance offered fully through the process.
Have you adapted your service during the pandemic?
All project activities were moved to online delivery, supporting women to access online zoom and google classroom to help continue their ongoing learning and development.
What are your main concerns at the moment?
- Further to the COVID-19 pandemic, the communities we work with have suffered in many ways and face challenges. The requirement for intense support for women is required.
- Funding for the Charity services is always an issue in the Voluntary Sector, we have a mixed income model where we generate our own income through our emerging social business: B Collective.
