Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):

Desi Sangat is a community organisation that celebrates the richness of South Asian traditions, culture and heritage. This is done through music, dance and food. Our aim is to bring our rich cultural heritage and history to the wider communities by celebrating with them and showing unity and cohesion. We also pride ourselves on educating our South Asian communities on matters that affect us, including health and social matters. We have a jam-packed year ahead, so keep an eye out for what’s in store. Our aim is to bring communities together.

Who do you serve? How do they access services?

We serve all communities from all backgrounds. People can access our services and events through social media promotions. We hold a public consultation every few months to engage with the community to see what sort of things they would like to do and what topics we should cover when it comes to health and wellbeing.

What are your current projects or services?

We have a few events in the planning stages that are coming up next year. These will be made available for sign up via social media and other outlets. As well as promotional materials.

What are your three main concerns at the moment?

Health and Wellbeing – We would like to focus on areas of health and wellbeing where the South Asian community find it taboo to talk about, and also educate communities on stigmas and bias.

Digital – We believe everyone should be tech savvy or at least have basic digital skills. We want to work with the South Asian community and help them develop these basic digital skills to help them navigate day-to-day tasks.

Community Integration – We want to bring communities together from all backgrounds to help build positive relationships and promote community cohesion. We want to do this through days out, community events and fun days.
