Tell us about your organisation? The positive action project aims to improve awareness and service accessibility for ethnic minority communities in the North East. We work with a range of organisations that cater for ethnically minoritised and aim to reduce some of the local health inequalities. Some of the work we do includes; recruiting and training community ambassadors, promoting employment and volunteering opportunities, raising awareness of our services and the help available to access them, training communities in CPR and life saving skills.
Tell us why being a Haref Ally is important for you and your organisation?
Being a Haref Ally has allowed us to network and engage with more groups that we would have not reached. Besides networking, Haref has allowed us to review some of our work through shared learning which has been essential to the success of our project.
Tell us about anything that you or your organisation has done to improve how you work with ethnically minoritised communities?
We have run recruitment workshops to assist more ethnic minority people to apply for jobs with us
We have run a series of awareness and lifesaving skills workshops to help ethnically minoritized people be better informed on how to access the ambulance service and how to help the casualty whilst waiting for the ambulance.
We have recruited and trained 90 community ambassadors who help us share key messages in the communities
