Tell us about your organisation/department/project (your aims, what you do, who you work with): Community Mental Health Support Service (CMHSS) Eligibility:  Aged 18 years or over, be registered with a GP practice and live in Newcastle and experience mental distress.  Contact within 48 hrs of referral, offer up to 12 weeks of support consisting of Face to face or remote 1:1 support, co-create a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and offer group support in our 6 Weeks of Wellbeing course.

Tell us why being a Haref Ally is important for you and your organisation:  Whilst we are slowly seeing an increase in minoritised communities being referred into services, this is done by others at a point of crisis as opposed to being preventative and through self-referral. We must endeavour to build relationships so that services are structured along cultural representations of mental ill health as opposed to solely western diagnostic criteria.

Tell us about anything that you or your organisation has done to improve how you work with ethnically marginalised communities: Organisation/service - Internal Viva Community, use Interpreting services, attended Mela to promote service and to ask questions.  CMHSS is part of the Newcastle East End network ran by the council that is seeing how support can be developed for those with English as a Second Language. We have been on Spice FM discussing mental health in the community. We signpost people directly to other organisations.
