Asians of the North
Tell us about your organisation:
Asians of the North is a community-led organisation dedicated to promoting unity, opportunity and inclusion across the North East. While our name reflects our heritage, we welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, faiths and cultures. Our mission is to bring communities together through mentoring, education, collaboration and meaningful conversations that inspire positive change. We are currently operating as a community group and are working towards becoming a registered charity as we continue to grow.
Who do you serve and how do they access services?:
We support people of all ages, with a particular focus on empowering young people to develop confidence, resilience and aspirations for the future. Our programmes will initially be delivered across the North East, with ambitions to expand regionally and nationally. People can access our support through self-referral via our website, email and social media, as well as through referrals from schools, colleges, local authorities, health services, police, faith organisations, charities and community partners.
What are your current projects or services?
Our programmes include mentoring, youth leadership, confidence and mindset workshops, community cohesion events, interfaith initiatives, cultural celebrations, school engagement, business mentoring, sports and wellbeing activities, volunteering opportunities and projects inspired by the legacy of Muhammad Ali through collaboration with the Muhammad Ali Centre. Every initiative is designed to inspire, educate and strengthen communities while promoting inclusion, opportunity and mutual respect.
What are your main concerns at the moment?
Our three key concerns are:
- Declining confidence and aspirations among young people
- Increasing division and misunderstanding between communities
- Unequal access to opportunities that can lead to social isolation.
Through mentoring, education and partnership working, we aim to tackle these challenges and help build stronger, safer and more connected communities.
