Ndi Igbo North East England (NINEE) CIC
Founded in 2011, NINEE is a vibrant association of people of Igbo heritage and affiliation living across North East England. The organisation promotes social connection, preserves Igbo culture, and supports members navigating life in the diaspora. Guided by the motto “Ofu obi ka anyi ji aga n’iru” (In unity we progress), NINEE fosters unity, wellbeing, and cultural pride while contributing to the wider community.
Membership With over 300 members from diverse backgrounds, NINEE welcomes individuals connected through birth, marriage, or shared interest. The organisation is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with leadership elected every two years.
NINEE serves its members, local communities, and partner organisations across North East England. Services are accessed through membership, public events, weekly Igbo language classes, and outreach initiatives that promote inclusion and cultural exchange. Projects & Services Key activities include Igbo language lessons, youth development and networking programmes, and health and wellbeing initiatives for all ages.
NINEE conducts welfare support, charity outreach, and cultural events such as the New Yam Festival, Igbo Day, and family fun days, often in collaboration with local institutions. Achievements NINEE has built strong partnerships across the UK, delivered cultural performances in community settings, supported health awareness campaigns, and contributed to charitable causes locally and internationally.
Current Priorities The organisation aims to secure sustainable funding, obtain a permanent venue, expand youth engagement, and increase awareness of its services. Friends of NINEE We engage with a wider community of friends and associate fondly described as “Friends of NINEE”. Helping our community to maintain inter-ethnic partnerships within and across the region.
