About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.
It is an exciting and important time to be joining us at Crisis. We work with thousands of people across England, Scotland and Wales so they can leave homelessness behind for good. We have recently adapted the way our services work to maximise our impact in ending homelessness. We have increased our capacity to work with people one to one and also strengthened our ability to support those people facing the most barriers to preventing or ending their homelessness.
Location: Newcastle (Some working from home is an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid Working policy)
About the role
This is a new and exciting role developed in response to a significant change programme across Client Services, aimed at ensuring we can end the homelessness sustainably for more of our members. As Volunteer & Involvement Lead you will ensure all aspects of volunteer recruitment, training, and management for both general and volunteers with lived experience on their journey out of homelessness. Crisis Skylight Newcastle has a fantastic and committed volunteer base who work year-round in support of our mission to end homelessness. We want to embed this further following a recent restructure so that volunteering opportunities are developed across our services to ensure we sustainably end the homelessness for more our members. Alongside leading our year-round volunteering services, you will also lead on volunteer recruitment, training, and deployment at our annual Crisis at Christmas project, leading on delivery of a successful Christmas project alongside our Events Coordinator.
Our members are central to all aspects of our work here at Crisis Skylight Newcastle. As Involvement Lead you will drive forward our agenda to improve effective co-production, to seek the views of our members and drive forward service improvements, informed by members experiences. Working in collaboration with the national involvement leads, you will seek new approaches and opportunities for member involvement across Skylight Services to support our mission and improve member involvement and influence.
Whilst based in Newcastle, you will be part of a team of Volunteer and Involvement Leads working across the UK and feed into national developments through the Volunteer Partner for Client Services.
About you
You will have significant experience in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers and ensuring volunteers have the best experience possible. As a Volunteer Professional, you will understand the contribution volunteering can bring to a service and seek out new and innovative ways to support both general and volunteers with lived experience of homelessness. You will have experience of working in the homelessness or associated sectors, of working with people who have experienced complex trauma and understand the challenges and opportunities available to people through volunteering on their journey out of homelessness. More importantly, empathy, commitment, and a passion to support people, through volunteering and with the support of general volunteers, to end their homelessness for good.
As involvement lead, you will lead and set this agenda locally, with support from our national member involvement leads. Setting out an operational plan to take forward a range of exciting and innovating member involvement projects, seeking to delivery co-production and influence over service delivery to drive forward service improvements to maximise member opportunities.
We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. We know that the more perspectives, voices, and experiences we can bring to this work, the better. We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of homelessness, and people from all marginalised groups, communities and backgrounds.
