The British Red Cross

Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):
150 years of supporting our nation through national programs and worldwide support provision as a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. We are Inclusive, Compassionate, Courageous and Dynamic. We are the movement that connects human kindness with human crisis.
Who do you serve? How do they access services?
With impartiality as a one of our pillars we serve our nation and our communities through crisis. Through the Refugee Support Project we are supporting communities of refugees and vulnerable migrants.
What are you current projects or services?
Help we offer through Refugee Support Project includes destitution support for basic necessities, help with bringing families together, information and advice on access to entitlements, orientation, and referrals and signposting to local services.
Have you adapted your service during the pandemic?
We moved towards a greater use of digital platforms with face-to-face support limited to very exceptional situations. We implemented positive changes for the benefit of service users and service provision i.e. destitution support issued via a support payment card that is posted to service users.
What are your three main concerns at the moment?
- Helping people through the Covid-19 pandemic and looking into post-pandemic support needs
- Crisis caused by climate change
- Project specific - Restricted access to health services for lots of service users and further restrictions that new Immigration Bill may bring in place
