Meet the Team - Stewart Turnbull - North of Tyne Volunteering Project
This week we're delighted to welcome Stewart Turnbull as our Volunteering Development Officer for the North of Tyne Volunteering Project. This project aims to establish the North of Tyne as an 'area of excellence' for supporting informal and formal volunteering over the next five years. Connected Voice is one of the partner organisations working alongside North Tyneside VODA, Northumberland CVA and the Volunteer Centre Newcastle.
Hello, my name is Stewart and I’ve joined Connected Voice as their new Volunteering Development Officer for the North of Tyne Volunteering Project. I will be working on a project called Sector Connector Newcastle. This is all about providing opportunities for businesses, operating in Newcastle, to support their communities. I’ll be looking to link them up with local charities, voluntary and community groups that need help via skill based volunteering. I’m looking forward to getting out and about and meeting with businesses - small, medium and large and helping them to realise their Corporate Social Responsibility goals. There are many ways for businesses to get involved, from employee volunteering in specific fields such as Health & Safety, Human Resources, Digital Development, Branding and Marketing, and Social Media. Or, maybe you could run a workshop or have a resource you could share, a meeting room, for example.
I’ve been working in the voluntary sector for the past 18 years and, before that, clocked up 15 years in the world of media. I am passionate about volunteering and the difference it can make to individuals, organisations and communities.
My own volunteering has included Victim Support Line, Oval House Theatre and being a Trustee for Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets. Recently returned to my native North East, I am reminded every day of what a wonderful place this is to live, work and volunteer.

Sector Connector Newcastle is a great way for businesses to demonstrate their support for the local community and to upskill their employees by giving them the opportunity to apply their skills in a new environment. It’s also a chance to network within the voluntary and community sector and build relationships with new organisations.
For voluntary and community organisations, Sector Connector Newcastle offers the chance to benefit from in-kind support from local experts. Read a recent blog about how Glass Digital supported Friends of Jesmond Library with their marketing strategy.
