Making Research Inclusive with NIHR BioResource
Connected Voice Haref is partnering with NIHR BioResource, together with community organisations across the country with one shared goal: to address health inequalities for ethnically marginalised communities by #MakingResearchInclusive
Why it matters
Ethnically marginalised communities have been historically under-represented in health research, which can mean healthcare treatments and services are less effective for them.
NIHR BioResource Commitment
NIHR BioResource is committed to increasing the number of people who take part in research so they stand to benefit from the research outcomes
Partnership
This collaboration has community voices at its core, and we are all committed to working together for lasting change.

How Haref is supporting the campaign
We have been working with Egality and NIHR BioResource alongside seven other community organisations representing ethnically marginalised communities to design a campaign with the aim to make research more inclusive. This has involved offering feedback about how best to communicate with different communities, what information people need to know about and what formats would be most appropriate and accessible.
This includes input into a series of short videos about the journey and experiences of a volunteer and how you can make a difference, as well as stories from volunteers and what makes them choose to donate to the BioResource.
We'll be sharing more about this work in the coming weeks, including the new videos so look out for updates with the hashtags #MakingResearchInclusive and #ResearchForUsWithUs and subscribe to our bulletins if you haven't done so already.
Support our campaign! How to get involved
Please follow our campaign on social media with the hashtags #MakingResearchInclusive and #ResearchForUsWithUs and help us share and encourage more people to volunteer to take part.
Anyone, any age, can take part in research via the NIHR BioResource
Joining the NIHR BioResource as a research volunteer involves donating a blood or saliva sample, completing health and lifestyle questionnaires and agreeing to provide access to medical records if they are required). New volunteers living near one of our BioResource Centres can provide a blood sample (only about 5% the volume required when someone donates blood to the NHS) or for those unable to visit us, a saliva sample can be provided using an at-home pack.
