Gateshead Volunteer Centre Launches

Today marks the launch of the new Gateshead Volunteer Centre, which is being run by Connected Voice and funded by Gateshead Council. For Gateshead residents, the Volunteer Centre will provide opportunities that help people to find purpose, build skills and confidence, and increase wellbeing. For Gateshead organisations, the Volunteer Centre will help them to promote volunteering opportunities and provide valuable peer support around managing volunteers.

We’re currently recruiting a Gateshead Volunteering Development Officer who will be providing face-to-face support across a number of community venues in order to reach as many residents and voluntary and community organisations as possible.

We’re also delighted to welcome Kate Marshall as Gateshead Council's volunteer officer for the Gateshead Volunteer Centre. Kate will be providing support around managing our volunteering database, delivering training and developing good practice guidance for organisations.

How to get involved

We’ll share details about how to meet with the new Gateshead Volunteering Development Officer once they’re in post. In the meantime, we encourage organisations to list their volunteering opportunities on the OurGateshead.org community website.

Promote your volunteering opportunities: On OurGateshead.org, volunteering opportunities are listed under ‘Ways to Help’. You can add your volunteering opportunity (‘Request for Help’) by logging in or creating a new account on the OurGateshead website (it’s free to sign up). There are two ways you can add a ‘Request for Help’:

  1. Click ‘Add content’ and select ‘Request for Help’ – complete the form and your request will be listed under ‘Ways to Help’
  2. When you add an event or activity under Things to Do, you can also ‘Request Help’ for this listing. To do this click ‘Add Content’ and select ‘Things to Do’. When you complete the form you will notice there is a box where you can ‘Request Help’. Again this request will be listed under the ‘Ways to Help’ section of OurGateshead.org.

Sign up for an NVQ Level 1 in Volunteering: This four day NVQ in Volunteering is being offered free to Gateshead residents through the Future You project. The course includes supportive workshops and short talks from local people about their own experiences of volunteering.
