The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) works to transform lives through world-leading research in ageing and multiple long-term conditions (MLTC).

Beyond the big titles and acronyms we are a group of researchers looking to improve health outcomes in the following research areas:

Tell us why being a Haref Ally is important for you and your organisation

We want to make sure our health research is equitable and that everyone has a say (who wants to) on what we research. We need to have a greater diversity of voices in our research and we look to HAREF among many other community groups and leaders of great diversity to help us with that. We all want to be healthy, we want our family and friends to be healthy and the work that the BRC in Newcastle is doing will help towards that. Tell us about anything that you or your organisation has done to improve how you work with ethnically marginalised communities

We are really proud of Multiverse Lab, a community project we completed last year in partnership with Unfolding Theatre. We travelled around the North East and North Cumbria and asked people in lots of different communities what mattered most to them on health and social care. There were lots of powerful messages on making access to medical treatment more equitable from ethnically minoritised communities. We are now busy making sure our researchers respond to these messages in their research to make it equitable. Here are some of those powerful voices ethnically minoritised communities:
