1. Tell us about your organisation/department/project (your aims, what you do, who you work with):

I am a Respiratory Doctor (Specialty Trainee) currently undertaking a research study focused on improving the care of people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This group is often high-risk, disadvantaged, and underserved, with many experiencing significant socio-economic deprivation, a reliance on healthcare services, and poor health outcomes.

2. Tell us why being a Haref Ally is important for you and your organisation

Becoming a Haref Ally is an important step in strengthening my commitment to advancing health equity. As someone involved in both clinical research and patient care, I recognise the urgent need to improve diversity in research and ensure the inclusion of ethnically marginalised communities. Partnering with Haref offers a valuable opportunity to listen and learn, ensuring our outputs are more inclusive.

3. Tell us about anything that you or your organisation has done to improve how you work with ethnically marginalised communities

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust actively champions diversity and inclusion. The Trust holds several accreditations, including recognition as a Disability Confident Employer and a Stonewall Diversity Champion, as well as a Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. It supports a number of equality and diversity staff networks to discuss equality related issues, share good practice, and contribute to Trust policy and consultations.
